Terms and Conditions

The Rules below are taken from the Scottish Kennel Club Handbook:

Membership

The application for admission to membership, which shall include an undertaking by the applicants to observe the Rules of the Club, must be made in such form as may be prescribed by the Council and be subscribed by the applicants. The Council shall (subject only to the Rules of the Club), determine as to the admission of the candidates. No person shall be rejected unless by a two-thirds majority of the members of the Council present and voting. In the event of any application being granted the candidates on making payment of their first subscription and any applicable joining fee shall have their full name, address, occupation and date of admission entered in the Register of Members kept by the Secretary. Payment of the subscription and any applicable joining fee shall be their distinct acknowledgement of and acquiescence to the Rules of the Club.

The annual subscription and joining fee for members shall be such sum as the members shall determine from time to time at a General Meeting together with any Tax which may from time to time be or become payable in respect of such subscription and joining fee. The subscription and joining fee of a member shall be payable at the date of his application and thereafter the subscription shall be payable on 1st January in each year.
Any person, whose subscriptions remains unpaid as at 31st March in any year, shall automatically no longer be a member after that date, and shall have his name removed from the register. The Club has a number of life members but no further admission to life membership will be accepted.

The Council shall have power to elect Honorary Members of the Club without joining fee or membership subscription but Honorary Members so elected shall not be entitled to vote at General Meetings nor shall they be entitled to be elected for any office whatsoever in the Club.

The Council shall have power to recommend to a General Meeting the election of Honorary Life Members. Notice of such a proposal must appear on the Agenda of a General Meeting and to be passed must obtain a majority of at least two thirds of the votes of the members present and entitled to vote. An Honorary Life Member will be a person who has rendered, or who by reason of his position or experience may in the opinion of the meeting be able to render, assistance in promoting the Objects of the Club. Honorary Life Members shall have all rights and privileges of membership but shall not he liable for paying any joining fee or membership subscription.

No member shall be entitled to be present at or take part in any proceedings or vote at any General Meeting, of the Club whether on a show of hands, or on a ballot, or to vote in any postal vote, or to nominate or be nominated as a candidate for election to the Council, or if nominated to be elected, or if elected to take office or to to hold office as a member of said Council, if and while he:
(1) is due to the Club any subscription, or
(2) is due to the Club other debt which has remained due for a period of more than three months after the same became due and payable, or
(3) is bankrupt or insolvent or of unsound mind
(4) is a Junior member

No member of the Club shall directly or indirectly appear or act before the Council or before any General Meeting of the Club in any professional capacity for any client other than the Council or enter into any business contract or relationship with the Club without making disclosure of his interest to the Council or to the members at a General Meeting, or exercise any vote in connection therewith.

Members may not give publicity in the Press or other media to matter affecting the club or to the proceedings at Club meetings. This exclusion shall not apply to any matter which the Council may wish to publicise and in such case the Club shall bear all liability incurred and shall indemnify any member of the Council or any official of the club against all personal liability or loss incurred thereby. Any members infringing this Rule will be subject to such penalty as the Council may determine.

Resignations from membership must be submitted to the Secretary in writing but members resigning remain liable for all subscriptions due for that year. If one party to a joint memebership resigns in accordance with this paragraph, the remaining party may continue single membership without payment of a Joining Fee, provided that all subscriptions have been paid.

Any one ceasing by death, resignation, expulsion or otherwise to be a member of the Club shall not, nor shall his representatives. have am claim upon or interest in the funds or property of the Club; but notwithstanding such cessation of membership the Club shall be entitled to claim from him or from his estate any arrears of subscription or other sums due by him to the Club at the time of his ceasing to be a member.

Any member who shall be suspended by the Kennel Club under any Kennel Club Rules in force at the time of suspension or disqualification shall ipso facto cease to be a member of the Club; and any member who shall fail in the observance of the Rules of the Club, or whose conduct in any respect shall in the opinion of the Council be derogatory to the character or prejudicial to the interests of the Club, may be removed from membership of the Club by the Council by a resolution to that effect passed by a majority of at least two thirds of the members thereof (exclusive of the member whose removal is in question if he happens to be a member) present and voting at a meeting of which notice specifying the intention to propose such resolution and the reason or reasons thereof shall have been sent to the member whose removal is in question, and to all the members of the Council, not less than fourteen days before such meeting. Any such member shall be entitled to be heard orally at the meeting or in writing provided his written representations are lodged with the Secretaryl not less than three clear days before the meeting, but if personally present shall retire from the meeting after being heard. No person so expelled shall be re-admitted as a member of the Club except by a vote of at least two thirds of the members of the Council present and voting at a meeting on a motion of which notice has been given. A person expelled as aforesaid may within two calendar months from the date of the resolution of expulsion appeal against such expulsion to the Kennel Club upon and subject to such conditions as the Kennel Club may impose.
